It Turns Out I Was Born to Do This.

Lian, Founder of YourHQ

Origin

It Started With
My Own Website.

I've always been obsessed with storytelling. With the way a person or a business can be translated from the physical world into something digital that actually feels like them. Not a brochure. Not a template. Something that carries the real story.

When I started building my own website, two things happened. First, I realised I was actually pretty good at this. Second, and this is the part that hooked me, I realised how much I loved it.

Taking someone's story and crafting it into a digital presence. Making it feel frictionless. Getting the experience right so that the person on the other end feels something when they land on it.

That's when YourHQ clicked.

Why This Matters

Everyone Deserves
Their Own Slice of Digital Space.

There's a strange idea floating around that websites are a thing of the past. That social media is enough. That a link in bio will do.

I couldn't disagree more.

A website is one of the most important things a person or business can own. Your permanent, unconditional corner of the internet. A space that belongs to you, not to a platform, not to an algorithm, not to a company that can change the rules overnight.

Data sovereignty. Digital ownership. The right to exist online on your own terms.

That's not a technical argument. It's a values one.

My purpose is to manifest greatness in others.

I genuinely believe that having a permanent, authentic digital home is part of that. It's the foundation everything else gets built on.

The Lens

I Didn't Study to Build Websites.
I Studied Because I Needed to Understand Where All of This Is Going.

I completed a Master of Technological Futures because understanding AI and disruptive emerging technology wasn't optional. It was the most important thing I could do to stay useful in a rapidly shifting world.

Building websites wasn't the focus. It happened almost by accident. And along the way I ended up going deep on conversational AI. Becoming, quietly, something of an expert in it.

What the Master's actually gave me wasn't a qualification. It was a way of thinking. Solving complex problems and making them simple. Building technology that's ethical and values-based. Asking, from the very beginning, how do we wield this well?

Every site I build is constructed for the present and future-proofed for what's coming. AI search, answer engines, the next shift we haven't named yet. You don't have to understand any of it. That's my job.

Where It Gets Personal

I Think About My Dad
More Than I Let On.

My dad worked for himself his whole life. Watching him was where my work ethic came from. That quiet pride in doing something well, on your own terms, without waiting for permission.

He never had a website. In his day, it wasn't the thing. But I think about it sometimes. What I would have built for him. How I would have translated his story, his craft, his reputation into something permanent and findable and his.

He probably would have shrugged and said he didn't need it.

But I would have loved to have had the chance.

That feeling is part of why I do this. The people I build for are people like him. Good at what they do, built something real, deserving of a digital presence that finally matches it.

What I Build

Founder. Builder.
The Person Who Actually Makes It.

I'm the founder of YourHQ and I build every site personally.

Strategy, copy, design, code, infrastructure, performance. That's all me. Every client gets my full attention. Every build is hand-coded, not templated. Every site is reviewed by me before it goes anywhere near a preview link.

That's not a limitation. That's the point.

When you work with YourHQ, you're working with the person who cares most about getting it right. My name is on every single thing that goes out.

I'm a founder who builds, not a founder who manages.

Every client gets the real thing. No handoffs. No junior staff. No templates with your name dropped in.

Global

Built in Whangārei.
Already Global.

YourHQ launched in Northland and my first client outside New Zealand came from San Francisco before I'd finished setting up the systems.

That told me everything I needed to know.

The problem I'm solving isn't a New Zealand problem. It's everywhere. So while YourHQ is proudly founded in Aotearoa, it was always going to be global. We just got there faster than expected.

One More Person Worth Knowing

Nic.

Nic Sheehan, Connector

Nic Sheehan

Connector

Nic is the person who finds the people who need this and helps them take the first step.

She's not a salesperson in the traditional sense. She's someone who understands the YourHQ model deeply, genuinely believes in it, and has a gift for recognising when someone is exactly the right fit. And making the introduction feel easy.

If Nic sent you here, you're in good hands. She doesn't send people who aren't.

Values

This Is How
I Work.

You own everything.

Your domain, your content, your design. From day one. If you ever leave, I hand it all over. Nothing held hostage.

I stay.

Most web designers build and disappear. I become your Caretaker. Hosting, maintaining, refreshing, and answering your texts for as long as you're with me.

Technology should serve people.

Every decision in a YourHQ build is made with the human at the centre. Not the algorithm, not the platform, not what's easiest for me.

Plain English. Always.

No jargon. No upselling things you don't understand.

Frictionless or I haven't done my job.

If the process feels hard, I've failed.

The Next Step

Who Actually Gives a Damn?
