The Process
How do I get started?
Fill in the contact form or text me directly on 022 172 5793. I'll get back to you within one business day and book your Drive-Home Interview from there.
What is the Drive-Home Interview?
A voice call with my AI assistant. On your terms, whenever suits. Car, couch, between meetings. No forms, no typing, no Zoom. You just talk. Most people take about 20 minutes.
Do I have to write anything at all?
Nothing. I write every word. From your interview, your existing content, and one round of your feedback.
What is the copy review page?
Before I build anything, you get a private page showing every section of your site copy. Clearly laid out, with a comment field next to each block. You read it, give feedback, I refine. Nothing gets built until you've signed off on every word.
What is the content raid?
I go through your existing digital footprint. Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Google Reviews, your existing site, anywhere you already show up. I pull photos, testimonials, media mentions, business details. You send me nothing.
How long does it take from my end?
One interview call. One round of copy feedback. Less than 30 minutes total.
How long does the full build take?
Most clients go from interview to live site within 1 to 2 weeks.
The Build
What's included in every build?
Drive-Home Interview, full copywriting, content raid, copy review page, up to 8 pages hand-coded, blog and resources architecture, portfolio and case study layouts, media and press section, socials embed (Instagram, Facebook, Threads, X, LinkedIn), Google Business Profile setup or optimisation, enquiry form direct to your inbox, basic email capture (CSV you own), SEO optimised for Google, AI search optimised for ChatGPT and Perplexity, stock photos if needed or your existing photos AI-optimised, domain, hosting, SSL, backups, security, annual refresh, on-demand updates forever.
What are Power-Ups?
Optional add-ons for connecting your site to third-party systems. Booking platforms, email tools, Stripe payments. The base build covers everything your site is. Power-Ups are for what it connects to.
Is this a template or a custom build?
Every site is hand-coded specifically for you. That's why our sites load under a second, look distinctive, and don't become obsolete when a platform updates.
What does "hand-coded" mean in practice?
Every line of code written for your site specifically. No bloat, no plugins, no platform layer that can break. Faster, more secure, more future-proof than anything built on WordPress or a page builder.
What is AEO and why does it matter?
AEO, Answer Engine Optimisation, is how your site shows up in AI-generated answers, like when someone asks ChatGPT a question. We build for both SEO and AEO.
Will my site work on mobile?
Yes. Mobile-first is non-negotiable.
Ownership and Portability
Do I own my website?
Completely. Your domain, your content, your design. All yours from day one. If you ever leave, I provide a full static export. Nothing held hostage. Ever.
Who registers the domain?
I register it in your name, not mine. It's yours unconditionally from the moment it's created.
What if I want to move my site somewhere else?
30 days notice. I export everything and hand it over. Your new host or developer gets a complete, clean codebase.
What about my data?
Your site collects only what it needs. Enquiry form submissions go direct to your inbox, email capture is exported as a CSV you own. I don't harvest your client data or use it for anything. Ever.
Pricing and Commitment
What does this actually cost?
$1,800 NZD + GST setup. Monthly Caretaker fee from $129/mo NZD. Power-Ups priced separately. You'll know the full cost before anything starts.
Why is there a monthly fee?
Because a website needs to run, stay secure, keep up with you, and get refreshed annually. The monthly fee means you never have to think about any of that.
Can I cancel?
Yes. 30 days notice. Full static export when you leave.
Can I pause?
Yes. Site stays live. Annual refresh clock pauses. No penalty.
What if I don't love the site?
Full refund of your setup fee, minus Stripe processing (~3%) and domain costs. Love it or leave it.
What currency do international clients pay in?
New Zealand dollars. Your bank handles the conversion.
Working With Lian
Who builds my site?
Lian. The founder. Every build is done by her personally. Strategy, copy, design, code, infrastructure. No handoffs. No outsourcing.
Who is Nic?
Nic is YourHQ's connector. She finds people who'd be a good fit and helps them take the first step. Once your build starts, Lian takes over completely.
What's Lian's background?
Lian holds a Master of Technological Futures and built YourHQ from a genuine obsession with digital ownership and storytelling. She's also gone deep on conversational AI. The Drive-Home Interview is built on technology she developed as part of her research.
How do I communicate during the build?
Text, email, or through the copy review page. No project management platforms. No weekly calls. No learning new tools.
Will you be honest if we're not a good fit?
Always. If what you need is outside our scope, I'll tell you and point you somewhere better.
I'm worried about saying the wrong thing professionally. Making claims I shouldn't, compliance issues.
I write carefully. I don't make clinical claims, guarantee outcomes, or use language that could create regulatory issues for professional services businesses. If you have specific advertising guidelines from your professional body, share them. I'll write to them. This is a conversation I have with almost every professional services client.
Global Clients
Do you work with clients outside New Zealand?
Yes. My first client outside New Zealand came from San Francisco. I work globally. The whole process happens remotely.
Does the time zone difference matter?
Not really. The interview is booked at a time that suits you. Communication is asynchronous. Texts and emails. So time zones don't create delays.
Can you set up my Google Business Profile if I'm not in New Zealand?
Yes. Set up for your location, wherever you are.
The Honest Ones
I've been burned by a web designer before. How is this different?
The YourHQ model is structurally different. You see the complete site before the subscription starts. If you don't love it, you get a refund. I stay on as Caretaker after launch. Every site is built by me personally. That doesn't mean everything will be perfect. But it means you're not alone if it isn't.
What if my business changes after the site is built?
Text me. That's what the Caretaker model is for. New service, new direction, new name. I update it. The annual refresh means your site grows with you.
What if I outgrow what you offer?
Then I'll tell you. If your business gets to the point where you need a custom web app or a full e-commerce platform, I'll point you in the right direction. I'm not going to hold you back to keep you as a client.
